AVIF

Overview

AVIF encodes images with the AV1 video codec and supports HDR, transparency, and animation. It can deliver smaller photo files than JPEG or WebP, but encoding is more CPU intensive and legacy device support is thinner.

Open AVIF files with an application that supports image/avif. Encoding and decoding in modern image tools. For delivery, use a viewer or converter that reads avif.
